- FOR THE SACRED LITURGY, IN THE CHURCH -
The Carolina Liturgical Chorale (est. 2016) exists to sing timeless works of sacred choral music, from all periods ancient to modern, in their native habitat - the Catholic liturgy. Masses by Palestrina and Byrd; motets by Bruckner and Poulenc; canticles from the Office like the Magnificat; Gregorian chants for every season of the liturgical year; all of these constitute the great treasury of sacred choral art which has defined Western music since the 9th century A.D.
We strive to sing this music, not for passive listening in a concert hall but as the sung prayer of the Church - to clothe the sacred scriptures and liturgical texts with the beautiful garments of chant and polyphony, so that all who hear them are brought to greater reverence for God the Father, fuller knowledge of his Son Jesus Christ, through the work of the Holy Spirit who breathes life into these sacred works.
